South Bend Mayoral Candidate Uses "Christian Code" In Campaign Launch

Literally stopped in mid-sip.

South Bend Tribune

Manigault starts run for South Bend mayor
'Great City Campaign' built on family values, economic growth.

JAMIE LOO
Tribune Staff Writer

SOUTH BEND -- "Aslan is on the move."It's one of Juan Manigault's favorite lines from the book "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

"And for those of you who like C.S. Lewis, you know what I mean," the president and CEO of Workforce Development Group Inc. said.

On Thursday morning, it was a metaphor for Manigault's formal announcement that he will run for mayor of South Bend in the upcoming election. Manigault is seeking the Republican nomination to run against incumbent Democratic Mayor Stephen Luecke.

Wow. Shorter Manigault, "Outta the way heathens, Jesus comin' thru!".

Aslan in Wiki

[edit] Christian interpretation
Although Aslan can be read as an original character, many readers see parallels with the character and story of Christ. In particular, his sacrifice is reminiscent of the accounts of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.

According to the author, he is not an allegorical portrayal of Christ, but rather a different, hypothetical, incarnation of Christ himself: 'If Aslan represented the immaterial Deity, he would be an allegorical figure. In reality however he is an invention giving an imaginary answer to the question, What might Christ become like if there really were a world like Narnia and He chose to be incarnate and die and rise again in that world as He actually has done in ours? This is not allegory at all.'

My first move was to email the reporter of this story and let her know that this was only a "metaphor for Maniqault's formal announcement" if he equated himself with Jesus Christ, since Aslan is a thinly veiled metaphor for J.C.

Sincerely, no shit, I got creepy crawlies reading this.

Manigault said his style of leadership will be "based on Godly principles," and throughout his address, he upheld the importance of family values in his life and in the founding of South Bend. He also quoted scripture from the apostle Paul.

"We must work with our faith community to strengthen our families and our faith for the future," he said. "Doing 'the next right thing' must become our way of doing everything."

Whoooeee. This guy is doing himself alot more harm than good.

After the letter to the editor that I wrote, (If Mr Manigualt wants to be mayor of South Bend, it would do him a world of good to remember that he would be mayor of everyone, not just Christians.")
and the call to Mishawaka Mayor Jeff Rheas's office (Rhea is endorsing him),
I emailed this to Keith.

Scary shit.

Wake UP!!!! It's FRIDAY. (gawd I'm old)

Twenty five years ago?

Lord, lord, lord. I'm positive that I watched this at the house on Byron, Grand Rapids Michigan.

Nursing Child In Limbo After DHS Raid

Des Moines Register

Breastfeeding baby's mom among those detained

Marshalltown, Ia. — A priest's and nun’s mission to find the mother of a nursing baby was thwarted today after they said officials from Camp Dodge would not let them inside to tell their story.

Sister Christine Feagan, from the St. Mary’s Hispanic Ministry, and The Rev. Jim Miller, who is a priest from the St. Mary’s Parish, both said they drove to Camp Dodge this afternoon to find out the status of a nursing mother who was deported and nursing a baby. They were also seeking a father with an ashmatic child.

I understand the basic idea behind this raid. I support enforcing our laws and trying to protect the US from people wanting to hurt it.

But I don't understand this shit.

He said an ICE officer at the facility “wouldn’t tell us anything about anybody.”

*snip*

They said they don’t know when the girl, whose father is absent, will be reunited with her mother.

The child, whose name was not provided by ministry staff, cried little, and stared at the different faces visiting the ministry. Women speaking a mixture of Spanish and English coordinated plans with how they would take care of children left behind.

Carmen Montealegre is one of the women who is taking care of two of her friends’ children with family displaced by the arrests. One of the children, a seven-year-old, asks frequently why her mother was detained, she said.

*snip*

The baby left behind has her own problems.

She has been difficult to feed since her mother was arrested, Feagan said.

“The mother was breastfeeding the baby,” Feagan said. “The baby doesn’t want to eat. Another tried to breastfeed, but she knew it wasn’t her.”

Feagan said she and advocates for local Hispanic families have tried to pinpoint exactly how many children are in family-limbo to try to organize help.

The majority of the comments at the site are indefensible.
These aren't defective blenders we're returning to the manufacturer,
they are breathing loving human beings.

What happens with the children?

To some watching TV, these are merely illegal immigrants. To teachers like Brad Hawkes, they are the parents of students at his school.
*snip*
Yesterday, secretaries and teachers all over the Cache and Logan City School Districts found themselves calling students' family members or relatives to pick them up from school. Some kids only have one parent to go home to and others have none, they're with relatives.

It's possible those kids may not come back to school for a while. In fact, some may never return. And to think, they were there just yesterday.

I got nothing. I'm shaking like a leaf.

A Sobering Moment

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Tim Johnson, D-South Dakota, was hospitalized Wednesday after he suffered stroke-like symptoms in his Washington office, his staff said.

Johnson, who turns 60 on December 28, was taken to George Washington University Hospital by ambulance about 11:30 a.m., sources in his office said.

A statement issued by Johnson's office said he was suffering from a "possible stroke." But a spokeswoman later said that tests showed Johnson had suffered neither a stroke nor a heart attack, although it was not clear what had happened.

Julianne Fisher, a spokeswoman for

God bless him, and not even for the obvious reasons. I've been there with the possible stroke, and it's not fun.

Peter Boyle Dead at 71

My most vivid memory of Mr Boyle was from the movie "Joe". I really don't know what it was about (I never saw it), but as a child something about it disturbed me.
Too bad I could never afford therapy, I'm sure there's alot in there I'm missing.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Peter Boyle, the actor known for playing everything from a tap-dancing monster in "Young Frankenstein" to the curmudgeonly father in the long-running TV sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died. He was 71.

Boyle died Tuesday evening at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He had been suffering from multiple myeloma and heart disease, said his publicist, Jennifer Plante.

Our mother died from complications of multiple myeloma also.

Rodriguez's victory is doubly sweet for national Democrats, since they not only pick up another seat but also scored another direct hit on the legacy of former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas). DeLay engineered the congressional re-redistricting in 2003 that led to a six-seat Republican gain in Texas in 2004. But those gains came at a price. Portions of the 2003 map, including the removal of 100,000 Hispanic voters from the 23rd District, were ruled in violation of the Voting Rights Act by the U.S. Supreme Court last June. The resulting changes in the district's boundaries reinstituted a strong Hispanic presence in the 23rd and led to Bonilla's loss.

Saudis Give U.S. a Grim What If

By HELENE COOPER
Published: December 13, 2006
WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 — Saudi Arabia has told the Bush administration that it might provide financial backing to Iraqi Sunnis in any war against Iraq’s Shiites if the United States pulls its troops out of Iraq, according to American and Arab diplomats.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia conveyed that message to Vice President Dick Cheney two weeks ago during Mr. Cheney’s whirlwind visit to Riyadh, the officials said. During the visit, King Abdullah also expressed strong opposition to diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran, and pushed for Washington to encourage the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, senior Bush administration officials said.

The Saudi warning reflects fears among America’s Sunni Arab allies about Iran’s rising influence in Iraq, coupled with Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. King Abdullah II of Jordan has also expressed concern about rising Shiite influence, and about the prospect that the Shiite-dominated government would use Iraqi troops against the Sunni population.

THIS is why the decider has put off his little "A New Direction" speech.
He is so hosed if the Saudis (holding hands, best buds, flyer-outters on 9/12)
are putting the screws to him, and yes, us.

And don't forget!!!

Saudi Ambassador Abruptly Resigns, Leaves Washington

By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, December 12, 2006; Page A23

Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States, flew out of Washington yesterday after informing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and his staff that he would be leaving the post after only 15 months on the job, according to U.S. officials and foreign envoys. There has been no formal announcement from the kingdom.

The abrupt departure is particularly striking because his predecessor, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, spent 22 years on the job. The Saudi ambassador is one of the most influential diplomatic positions in Washington and is arguably the most important overseas post for the oil-rich desert kingdom.

U.S. Rep. Henry Bonilla lost Bexar County for the first time in his political career Tuesday night, and trailed Democrat Ciro Rodriguez in total votes in the sprawling Congressional District 23.

The Associated Press declared Rodriguez the winner shortly before 9 p.m.

But early in the evening it remained unclear whether Democrats could claim another seat to their new majority in the House of Representatives.

Yet we did, yes indeedy.

Tweetys' Potty Mouth with the Edwards on Hardball LIVE (Twice!!)

Chris Matthews just now on the live Hardball from UNC with John & Elizabeth Edwards...

Tweety was asking about the stupid John Kerry joke, Edwards started to reply and his wife shushed him. Tweetys' response?

"Does she always bite your balls like that?"

Oh my. He seemed really out of it. Does anyone know where he's been?
He hinted he had been pretty ill, but this was strange even for him.
Mrs Edwards reply?

"Chris, my children are watching!"

Quick add in- after googling, it looks like Tweety is suffering from complications from diabetes. It was mentioned on Imus on the 4th of this month. DU

MSNBC's DC-based Chris "Hardball" Matthews was due to host a 2008 presidential race kickoff at the Smithsonian Castle last night. But he was a no-show, having been hospitalized due to complications from diabetes. He's slated to return home today.....

Hmm, how are they gonna fill up the space in the second showing where the will no doubt edit that piece? Hmmm..... (as I remember it came about 45 minutes after the hour)

UPDATE
I CANNOT believe they did not tape another segment to stick in there.
Holy shit.

Imams seek to settle with airline
By Audrey Hudson
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
December 11, 2006

Iraqi Sunnis protested in a Baghdad neighborhood yesterday after fleeing from fighting. Officials fear chaos in Iraq if the U.S. leaves a weak government in place. (AP)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Federal air marshals and pilots called the imams' actions a probe of airport security as well as a probe of the politically correct mentality of air passengers.
The Washington Times reported in 2004 that flight crews and passengers were experiencing a number of terrorist probes, most notably Northwest Airlines Flight 327 from Detroit to Los Angeles in June 2004, during which 14 Syrian men posing as musicians may have practiced a dry run.

Hmm, I'm not seeing any names of air marshals, pilots or officials of any stripe calling this a "probe". Not even a quote from an "unnamed source". Ya think if they thought it really was, their would be an investigation? They put people in jail for just talking bullshit about this stuff, and if they thought it was a real probe they wouldn't just whisk these guys away? Story one on Faux & Fonies

Story Two?

Seattle Airport Removes Christmas Trees Instead of Putting Up Menorah
Monday, December 11, 2006

SEATAC, Wash. — For people flying in and out of the Seattle area, there will be no holiday spirit to accompany the holiday travel season.

In response to a rabbi's request to add an 8-foot menorah to holiday decorations, officials at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport instead decided to remove all nine Christmas trees.

Okay, I get it. They're all "War on Christmas" blah, blah, blah. BUT, as I watched, I noticed something. The lady who was representing the airport basically said that they were just too lazy to put up a menorah!!!

They had two weeks of discussions about it, and at the last minute they decided to dump the tree instead of putting both up. She rambled on about how busy they were etc (which I'm sure is true) and then Doocy (He says what Cletis says about him isn't true, though I have my doubts) intones, "Some people say you're just caving to the PC Police."

In what planet do you live sir? That has nothing to do with anything she just said, it makes no sense on the face of it, unless the "memo" this am said you guys were losing traction on the War On Christmastm so start chatting it up!!

Repeat and regurgitate for 7a, 8a, 9a. Too bad it's too early to start drinking.
